TLC plates for thin layered chromatography use

An addition to our glass products for lab use, each box contains 50 plates for thin layer chromatography (TLC) use, our product reference is TLC50

For information for non lab readers, chromatography is a process in which compounds are separated on a thin layer of absorbent material, typically a coating of silica gel on a glass plate or plastic sheet.  Hence “TLC”

BBC fame with spatulas, swabs and face masks … …

A range of our spatulas, swabs and face masks were purchased as props for the CBBC production, Wolfblood.   The items were used in series four of the BBC children’s drama.

For those of you who don’t know about wolfbloods well, they are part-human, part-wolf, with extraordinary speed and senses.

Wolfbloods live amongst us in secret, able to transform at will.  In series four, friendships and loyalties of a group of teens are tested to breaking point as they negotiate the battle between their wolf and human sides.

The items we purchased were used as part of the medical/science kit belonging to Dr Whitewood, an employee of Segolia, a multi-national scientific research company secretly run by wolfbloods.  This was the kit she took with her on a research mission to a wild wolfblood camp in episode 10.

Below can be seen a selection of the products which comprised Dr Whitewood’s kit.  Further information about these products can be viewed by clicking on the associated image.

Geocaching with TCC’s camouflaged containers

On close inspection, we think the frogs/toads are concealing 2ml tubes and 3ml tubes with another kind of 2ml tube inside the golf balls, a 6ml tube inside the timber and a 10ml tube keeping the scorpion happy!

This time, whilst asking a customer for “their story”, I learned about a hobby that I hadn’t come across before – a great idea for enjoying the outdoors, geocaching.  In this image, some of the containers which we sell have been used to camouflage hidden treasures – thanks for the image Kurt, love the creative caches!

Having researched online, the uninitiated like myself, may be interested to read something about this pastime … a geocacher will go to a location which has usually some special interest or beauty.   At the location, they will hide a small waterproof box containing a few varied bits and pieces (usually of little value), a logbook and a pen or pencil. Using their GPS receiver, the geocacher records the coordinates of their cache and returns home to log its existence on a website.

Another geocacher will see the listing about the cache, enter the coordinates into their GPS receiver and go in search of it – how rewarding to find a cache that has been as cleverly disguised as the ones in this image. When they find a cache, the finder may take something from it and leave something in return, and for posterity, enter a log in the logbook.

When the seeker returns home, s/he returns to the website where they learned of the cache, logs that they found it and passes any comments. This feedback is a kind of reward for the cache hider.

Geocaches are currently placed in over 100 countries around the world and on all seven continents, including Antarctica. There are over 2 million active geocaches published on various websites.

I imagine that from our range of vials & containers, there will be endless opportunities for creativity – if you would like to share your ideas, click here to send by email

Flat bottom borosilicate glass flasks-100ml & 250ml

Two new additions to our range of glass products, 100FBF and 250FBF, are flat bottomed/free standing flasks/bottles, 100ml & 250ml capacity, both with ground neck feature.

Robust products, made in England from borosilicate glass which is notable for its high tolerance to heat and extreme resistance to severe temperature changes.

Chemical durability – borosilicate glass is also known for its extremely high chemical resistance.  It is resistant to chemical corrosion, making it perfectly suitable for laboratory experiments. Borosilicate glass handles even the most volatile chemicals. The impressive property of this glass allows it to remain in a corrosive environment for millions of years and still be intact!

So, whether for domestic use, lab use or just because they are useful containers, we think these new product lines have a place in our glass products range.
