Description
Transport swab with Amies Charcoal Transport Medium comes in a peel pouch as a sterile single swab with charcoal transport medium in a tube. The swab has a Polystyrene shaft with a Viscose bud tip.
Amies is a modification of Cary Blair Transport Medium, which is a modification of Stuart Transport Medium. The glycerophosphate is replaced by an inorganic phosphate, and the methylene blue by pharmacological charcoal. Calcium and magnesium are also added, thus maintaining the permeability of the bacterial cell.
All clinical Transport swabs with Amies Charcoal Medium comply with the CLSI standard M40-A (for the Quality Control of Microbiology Specimen Transport Devices). This range is CE Marked, and complies with the European Medical Device Directive 93/42/EEC.
Suitable for Gram-positive, Gram-negative, anaerobes, GUM, ENT, wounds, microaerophilic, viruses/PCR. Recommended for general clinical swabbing of fastidious, non-fastidious and anaerobic microorganisms, including throat, vaginal, and wound samples. This media assures the viability of organisms such as:
Neisseria sp.
Haemophilus sp.
Corynebacterium sp.
Trichomonas vaginalis
Streptococcus pyogenes
Streptococcus pneumoniae
Shigella flexneri
Salmonella typhi
Brucella abortus
Enterobacteria
Features:
Amies charcoal medium for recovery of aerobes, anaerobes, and fastidious organisms.
Low bio burden.
Viscose is a semi-synthetic material, where the starting component is wood pulp. Ideal for general purpose transport devices. Tips preserve the sample longer (no fatty acids).
Approximate length: 150mm / 6 inches
Approximate tip diameter: 5mm
Benefits:
Transport at ambient or refrigerated temperatures.
Open weave viscose bud for optimum release and improved sensitivity in diagnostic tests.
Best for gram stains.
