The edges are turned over to prevent sharp edges, and further enhance the rigidity of the gauze. Wire gauze with ceramic center is primarily used in science laboratories as a flame shield and is used at both the high school, college and professional levels.It is placed on the support ring of the laboratory tripod between the bunsen burner and the beakers in order to support the beakers or other glassware or flasks during heating. the gauze with a ceramic center will allow the heat to be dispersed more evenly.
